WELCOME TO THE HOME OF YOUNG LIONS The book Young Lions: Challenged to Live Free is dedicated to youth and young adults. The target audience age range is 9-25, followed by the rest of the village: Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends. Young Lions is a book designed to bring the family together. Our youth need the guidance of their elders to help process some of the information found within the book. What is a "Young Lion?" The term "young lion" is a nickname used in parts of Africa. It stands for a young black man. In the United States we use nicknames such as: player, stud, and dog. I am sure you can think of other nicknames. ...I remember seeing a film where an African fought off a lion with a stick. The African weighed around 150 pounds; the lion weighed around 400 pounds. As the man and lion walked around in a circle, the hugh lion growled, showing his powerful teeth. The African shouted and raised his stick. The African continued to shout at the snarling lion and wave his stick like it was a spear. Minutes later, the powerful lion turned and walked away, leaving a courageous African with a stick. In America, some of our "Young Lions" fight and kill each other. Their energy and courage are misdirected to illegal activities. The good news is that most young blacks have rejected acts of self-destruction. They are attending school, getting involved in worthwhile activities and trying to make a good life for themselves. We thank God for young adults who are making good decisions. |
