
| RITES OF PASSAGE “Young Lions Rites of Passage“ What is a "Rites of Passage?" A rite of passage marks a change from one status to another. It is a special ceremony that acknowledges a person or small group for the growth they have made. It can mark transitions in time such as childhood to puberty. A passage may also mark a religious achievement. The "Young Lions Rites of Passage" celebrates the understanding of knowledge and responsibilities. Unfortunately, at this time in history African American youth are high risk for entering the criminal justice system. This information is public knowledge. It appears everyone understands the trap but the youth who are falling into it. Young Lions challenges our high risk youth to study, think, and avoid the system. You deserve your freedom! |
| The main book used for study before the passage is: Young Lions: Challenged to Live Free. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends are asked to get involved in the lives of our youth. We all know the great African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child." Now let us raise the children. An ideal "Rites of Passage" group would have 1-2 caring adults for every 5-10 students. The groups are separated by sex.
